Sharon Strickland
Sharon Strickland

Sharon describes her work as abstract impressionism, influenced by the Eastern philosophies of art, particularly of China and Japan. She has studied traditional Chinese brush painting under Hung Wei Lee and is doing independent study of traditional Japanese enso painting and Chinese calligraphy well as mandala forms. Her usual medium of choice is watercolor on silk or rice paper. She is also making handmade books in combination with her artwork and photography.

She views painting as a transformative experience and an extension of life rather than a profession or hobby. Sharon is a member of The Art Bazaar coop, the Jefferson City Art Club, the Columbia Art League, and PeaceArt on the iPeace website. She has exhibited in Jefferson City, Columbia and Bucks County, Pa. She was raised near High Point, Mo., and resides in the Jefferson City area.
